In Venice, space is the most precious commodity. A city built on water teaches that every meter has value. In the Doge’s Palace, two entire floors are formed by open arcades of columns instead of solid walls. Light flows freely from the public space in front of the palace, through an open loggia without boundaries, and continues directly into the inner courtyard.
Nothing separates the outside from the inside. This continuous flow of space and light forms the essence of the building’s unique architectural luxury.
This surprising moment is captured in the painting. The figure is touched by light unexpectedly, without preparation. One can almost feel the moment of surprise — the instant when light reaches her simply because nothing stands in its way.
Part of the Ladies of Places series, exploring feminine presence, inner worlds, and the quiet dialogue between a figure and the spirit of a place.
