This photograph shows the painting Castelvecchio, Verona installed in the entrance hall of a private collector.

The two lovers in this painting are not Romeo and Juliet, but the old castle of Verona — Castelvecchio — and the architect Carlo Scarpa, whose remarkable reconstruction transformed the castle complex into a work of art. Their story is a quiet dialogue between history and modern architecture, where ancient stone walls meet Scarpa’s refined interventions of light, shadow and carefully composed materials.

In the painting I captured the playful fountain with its delicate glass bubbles rising from the water basin — a small but magical moment within the castle courtyard. The composition reflects the harmony between old and new elements that makes Castelvecchio one of the most inspiring places in Verona.

Placed in the collector’s entrance hall, the painting welcomes visitors with a story of architecture, travel and the enduring beauty of cultural heritage.
